As broadband services expand, optical fibre cable networks – made from optical fibre – are being expeditiously rolled out to ensure that India is hyper-connected and remains at the forefront of digital advancements being made across the world. Optical fibres, for all practical purposes, provide the backbone to the broadband infrastructure that is powering India’s digital transformation. India’s optical fibre/optical fibre cable manufacturers are geared to help in this transformation with capacities that far outstrip the domestic demand. However, as this C-DEP report underscores, several challenges including continuing dumping of optical fibre from foreign countries, particularly China, confront them.
