With over one-third of the global population using the internet, governments and militaries are increasingly relying on it for developmental initiatives and easier access. However, the lack of clarity regarding internet ownership poses significant challenges to national security and online privacy. Government policy alone cannot address these threats, highlighting the need for the private sector’s involvement in ensuring technological sovereignty. This research aims to explore the role of the private sector in establishing and maintaining technological sovereignty, considering their control over critical information infrastructure and potential for providing leadership. It seeks to address the ambiguity surrounding internet governance and its implications for national security.
